How ChiroSOAP Changed the Way I Feel About Notes

"I have been using ChiroSOAP for SOAP notes for the better part of two years now. I can honestly say that making soap notes is no longer a dreadful experience. Don’t get me wrong, doing notes is still not my favorite activity but at least I can do them quickly and efficiently. During the day I would have this constant nagging feeling that there were notes to be done before I could go home at the end of the day. Now I can accomplish seeing patients while finishing my notes during the same appointment time. Before working with ChiroSOAP it took too long to be able to finish a note between seeing patients and so notes would pile up during the day and I would need to take the time after seeing all my patients to finish my notes before going home. This meant that instead of leaving the office around 5:15pm I would leave between 6:00 and 6:30pm. Being able to leave at a reasonable time after a long work day was definitely a great thing because I could go home to my family and spend time with them instead of working longer and having less time with them.

Being able to do notes quickly is a great selling point. However, while doing notes quickly I found that most of the notes became repetitive and there wasn’t a clear indication that a patient's progress was changing from visit to visit. Normally it would be very similar notes from the start of care up until a re-exam or a release from care. This is the problem when it comes to insurance and auto accident cases. If each successive visit from the beginning looks the same then insurances are not going to cover the visit and the provider will become responsible for repayment of all the claims that look the same. ChiroSOAP allows for every visit to look concise but also not cookie cutter, meaning that each visit will look different and show progress based on the input you provide about the patient visit. With previous software that I have used for SOAP notes, having notes that looked custom to each visit was cumbersome and took a lot of effort to input information that wasn’t built into the program. For instance if I wanted to tell the difference between a negative and a positive orthopedic test with any additional finding I would have to type in all of that information as well as click the appropriate boxes. With ChiroSOAP I can click on a box and be confident that it will give detailed information of the findings and if I wanted to add more information I can use dictation within the software to give even further information.

The last thing I like about ChiroSOAP is that I can use it on any device whether it is a computer, tablet or phone. The easiest is using a tablet or phone because each check of a box can be done with the touch instead of using a mouse to navigate to the box and click. I also stated that using dictation is also really helpful when you are using a phone or tablet because that feature is automatically built into the device. So moving from seeing a patient in a treatment room to bringing them to the front I can complete the note before they even walk out the front door. Another amazing benefit is if I happen to forget to do a note before going home for the weekend or for a vacation I can easily complete a note while away from the office because ChiroSOAP is a web based software, so notes can be finished while you are away from the office. 

This program has made my work days more efficient while also being able to leave the office at a decent time. Not only do I have more time with each patient visit but I also have more time to spend with my family and loved ones at the end of the day.
